TEXAS RESTAURANT CHAIN UTILIZES DELL NOTEBOOK & DESKTOP TPM SECURITY FEATURES10-19-2005

ROUND ROCK, Texas, Oct. 18, 2005--Papa Gino's Holdings Corp., a leading Italian quick service restaurant chain in New England, is relying on Dell to bolster the security of its business data and help guard against identity theft for its employees and customers.

The popular restaurant chain is using Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security technology integrated into Dell OptiPlex(tm) desktop and Latitude(tm) notebook computers to help keep sensitive store, employee and customer data secure.

Dell's holistic approach to security is designed to ensure customers have easy access to products that provide protection on all levels. By integrating smart card readers and TPM technology into most of its enterprise client products, Dell helps ensure customers can secure critical data and control who has access to it.

According to Papa Gino's, IT decision makers were attracted to Dell's open-standards approach to security and found it could be deployed easily across a diverse IT environment that includes about 170 remote locations.

"We wanted an open-standards security solution that could prevent lock in," said John Fiore, chief technology officer for Papa Gino's. "Our research showed the open-standard TPM solution from Dell with the right management tools was superior versus proprietary options."

The TPM is a unique hardware device on the system board that handles various security tasks on a personal computer. When combined with Wave Systems Embassy Trust Suite (ETS) software, it performs system authentication to help ensure only authorized computers can access the network and data. The TPM security module also generates and stores encryption keys and helps avoid attacks by hackers trying to capture passwords and access sensitive data.

"The out-of-box experience was simple and immediately effective, enabling users to help protect data in ways that were previously unavailable, like encrypting it and storing it safely on the fly," said Chris Cahalin, network manager for Papa Gino's. "The Key Transfer Manager (KTM) Server product provides the organization with a way to backup and recover critical TPM keys which we consider a must-have product from Dell."

Another key benefit of the TPM-Wave ETS software combination is file protection. Users can create secure "vaults" on the system or network and store encrypted files containing sensitive data, such as human resources or real estate and facilities information that others should not be able to access even when backed up. Files remain encrypted on backup tapes, designed to keep the data safe throughout its entire life cycle should the tapes ever be lost or stolen on their way to storage.

Papa Gino's also plans to use the personal information manager applications built into the Wave ETS software. These applications help secure company data, such as account numbers, billing or shipping addresses and telephone numbers. This pre-populated information is stored in the TPM instead on the hard drive, shielding it from being "sniffed out" by an intruder. When users need to complete forms on the Web, such as an overnight shipping document, they are automatically prompted to populate information stored on the module. This avoids the need to type in sensitive data, including passwords or credit card numbers.
