Unnerved by burglary: Paul Glannon, paramedic and clinical supervisor at Chalfont St Peter Ambulance Station

LIFE-SAVING medical supplies were stolen during a burglary at an ambulance station in Chalfont St Peter while the crews were out answering 999 calls.

Thieves broke into the station in High Street between 8pm and 10pm on Wednesday, October 12, and stole a paramedic medical box and two computer hard drives.

Malcolm Hunter, Two Shires Ambulance NHS Trust chief executive, said the burglary had caused immense stress and worry for staff.

He added: "To have the ambulance station broken into is hugely upsetting for staff who work there. It is unnerving for anyone to have been burgled, especially since the medical equipment stolen is used to save lives and requires highly trained medical practitioners to administer.

"It is very saddening to hear that this has been stolen from the very people who are here to help the public.

"The computers that have been stolen were used for training and developing staff and will also be sorely missed."

The medical box was approximately 2ft square and orange. The two stolen computer hard drives, model D530 SFF, were black with a silver face at the front with individual serial numbers CZC4270WZM and CZC3391XM7, and green Two Shires tags.

Two Shires Ambulance NHS Trust and Thames Valley Police are now appealing for anyone with information on who may have taken the equipment or the whereabouts of the equipment to contact police immediately.

A Two Shires spokesman said: "If you find any of the equipment or feel that someone is trying to sell you a computer which has those serial numbers embossed on the back or top of the unit, please contact the police."

PC Stephen Lane, investigating officer, said: "I am hoping to hear from anyone who may have seen people hanging around in the area, close to the ambulance station during the evening, or who may have witnessed the theft, or seen the offenders leaving the ambulance station car park.

"It is possible that the offenders may try to get rid of the stolen items, either by discarding them or making attempts to sell them.

"If anyone has any information that may assist in this investigation please contact me, you may be aware of information that is vital to the investigation."

Contact PC Lane at Amersham Police Station on 0845 8 505 505, or if you don't want to talk to police or give your name, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
