EMBDEN -- Five computers were stolen last weekend from a mobile unit at Embden Elementary School, according to police.

Thomas Rourke, a Somerset County Sheriff's detective, is investigating the burglary at the school on Embden Pond Road. School officials discovered the crime when they arrived at school on Monday morning.

Rourke said that the burglar or burglars gained entrance to the mobile unit from a window that contained an air conditioner.

"We're investigating," Rourke said. "We are following up on some leads."

Jean Butler, principal of Embden and Solon elementary schools, said that technical staff is working on a value for the computers. They will try to repair some computers, and obtain a few more to fill the gap, Butler said.

Butler said that such incidents are not common at Embden Elementary, though vandals did damage the school sign earlier this autumn.
