MARYLAND COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS OF US SENATE RACE PARTICIPANT LT.GOV MICHAEL STEELESteele Office Broken Into; Computers Stolen11/17/2005

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's new campaign headquarters for his U.S. Senate race was broken into and computers were stolen sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, a spokesman said.

"As of right now, we don't believe the incident to have been anything other than a break-in for the purposes of theft," Leonardo Alcivar, Steele's campaign spokesman, said.

"It appears that all we've lost is a few laptop computers," he said. "There was no sensitive data compromised, and we have a series of both digital security measures and redundancies in place."

Annapolis police had only sketchy information on the incident, but an officer said two other offices in the Annapolis building also were broken into before 5 a.m
