No new leads for stolen ag equipment$10,000 in items taken from East Union High School not likely to be recovered

MANTECA — A week after burglars stole $10,000 worth of agricultural equipment from East Union High School, the Manteca Police Department says it has received no significant tips in the case.
"At this point we have no new information," said Spokesman Rex Osborn. "It's an unfortunately high dollar amount, but in cases like this, the stolen items are often sold on the street within 48 hours."
The theft occurred early last Monday morning when thieves entered the East Union campus via a gate that had been taken off of its hinges.
After breaking into the agriculture department, the burglars made off with a number of small, but expensive items including saws, welding helmets, ratchet sets, a laptop computer and digital camera.
"The average theft like this usually results in the burglars turning the items over for about 10 cents on the dollar," Osborn said. "It doesn't take long to move these types of goods."
Trustee Evelyn Moore said it was unlikely that any of the items would be covered by the school's insurance policy.
"I haven't seen the report from the school yet, but I doubt we will be able to recover any of the money through our insurance," Moore said. "There are too many valuable small items on a school campus for us to insure every one of them. If we
