STAFF REPORT
PORT CHARLOTTE -- A 12-year-old Murdock Middle School student stole a laptop computer from the school's television studio but was tracked down before she left for the day, according to a Charlotte County sheriff's arrest report. The child was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand theft.
The library's media specialist asked her and other library aides if he could look inside their backpacks for the stolen equipment, the report states, and the child took responsibility quickly.
"I took it," she told the media specialist, "and I wanted to talk to you about it."The computer was worth $1,829. The child was released to her parents after being charged.
