Two men have been charged in a theft spree that covered three states and included four counties. Michael Lee Cline, 22, and Clyde Matthew Stanley, 26, both of Statesville, NC were charged by Carroll County Sheriff Warren Manning."

Cline is now in custody in New River Valley Region Jail. Stanley remains at large. They are charged with thefts from homes and businesses in Carroll, Pulaski, Wythe and Grayson Counties.

One of the local businesses victimized was Turman Log Homes. Ryan Turman said the location on Route 100 in Sylvatus was hit on Tuesday, February 7.

“They took two drafting computers, two lap top computers and two digital cameras,” Turman told the Press. “Apparently they had been driving along the interstate and taking an exit and driving until they found a desolate area with low security.”

After a tip from a Carroll County resident, Cline was arrested in Wythe County Friday.

Several stolen items were found in the trunk of his car. Other stolen items were found in Cline’s residence in Statesville.

Among stolen items that were recovered were tools, firearms, ammunition, U.S. currency, watches jewelry, amps, DVDs, cameras and other items, Manning said.

Turman said his company’s items have not been recovered. “We were fortunate to have some back ups. But it has hurt productivity.”

At the times these crimes were committed, Cline was under bond in Iredell County, North Carolina for armed robbery, and in McDowell County, West Virginia for the same crimes that were committed in Southwest Virginia.
