H&R Block reports stolen computers, but client info safe

PENDLETON — Four computers from H&R Block were stolen Thursday night, and company officials want local clients to know their personal information is safe despite the theft.

The 203 S.W. Emigrant Ave. business was broken into sometime between 8 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, said Pendleton Police Chief Stuart Roberts. He said entry into the building was gained through the east door facing Southwest Second Street, which was kicked in.

“The investigation is pretty preliminary at this time,” Roberts said. No suspects have been arrested. “Detectives were able to pick up some forensic evidence left behind, though.”

This is one of the busier times of the year for H&R Block, a national company that prepares income tax returns, since state and federal taxes are due by April 17, Roberts said. However, he said he wouldn’t be able to speculate if that’s related to the break-in.
