Hungry for a computerized meal and preying on their suspects forgetfulness, an unknown thief who allegedly stole two laptop computers from a Westmont College dining hall in Montecito is being sought by police.

On March 2, according to police, a student entered the hall to eat, leaving his backpack with laptop in a temporary storage area along with the backpacks of other student diners. He finished eating and left but neglected to retrieve his backpack, which went missing. Police said he could not find it or his computer the following day.

Sheriff's authorities also said on Sunday the incident repeated itself when a female Westmont student left both her backpack and laptop case at the dining hall's entranceway while she ate dinner. Upon returning to her dormitory, the student discovered she left her laptop behind. According to police reports, the laptop could not be retrieved and was not turned in to the campus lost and found.

Police said the college's campus security was notified of the incidents, and the sheriff's department is still investigating."
