CONNECTICUT POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH STOLEN COMPUTERS nbc30.com - News - Officer Arrested In Connection With Stolen Laptops

ROCKY HILL, Conn. -- A Southington police officer and a Sysco Foods employee have been arrested in connection with the theft of laptop computers valued at $19,600.

Police believe Officer Justin Levy (pictured, right) worked with Michael Gaffney (pictured, left), 23, to steal and resell laptops.

Gaffney has been charged with larceny in the first degree, and Levy, an officer for two years, has also been charged in connection with the case.

On Feb. 13, Rocky Hill police received a report of a computer theft from Sysco Foods. The complaint was that 12 laptop computers and five computer memory cards had been taken from an internal storage closet.

After doing an internal inventory and determining the make, models and serial numbers of the computers, police entered the information in a national crime database.

Two of the laptops were sold to Levy’s co-workers at the Southington Police Department, and were noticed in the database.

After more investigating police discovered three more computers and four memory cards at Gaffney’s home.

Gaffney is scheduled to appear at Superior Court 15 in New Britain on March 22. He has been released on a $25,000.00 bond.

Levy resigned from the police department on Tuesday and turned himself in to police on Wednesday. He was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 20.
