ALBERTA GOVERNMENT SEES LITTLE RISK FROM COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM CHILDREN'S SERVICES OFFICE edmontonsun.com - Alberta - 'No threat' after gov't computers stolen: Police are investigating the theft of three laptop computers from a downtown Children's Services office, but ministry officials say no one's personal information has gone astray.

Ministry spokesman Jody Korchinski said the thefts occurred from an 11th floor office at 9940 106 St. between April 1 and 2.

'We did a risk assessment and there was no public threat,' she said. 'There is no personal information on the computers.'

NDP MLA Raj Pannu raised the issue in the legislature yesterday, surprising Children's Services Minister Heather Forsyth.

Forsyth said she was unaware of the thefts, but would look into the matter.

NDP Leader Brian Mason said he was concerned that thieves may have gotten their hands on the personal information of children in provincial care or their families, and that their privacy rights might be breached.

He said he was surprised the minister was unaware of the thefts, since they occurred more than a week ago.

"Obviously her staff didn't fill her in," he said.
