NEW MEXICO COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM BUSINESSES http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/43986.html

As Santa Fe’s temperature rises, so does its crime rate, police say.

Over the past five days, the city was peppered with 17 burglaries. Most of the crimes were auto burglaries that took place downtown. Almost all the victims were local residents, according to police reports.

Deputy Chief Stan Mascareñas attributed the rash of burglaries to warmer weather, which, he said, invites everyone, including criminals, to stay out later. “I think its more out of opportunity than practice for tourist season,” he said Sunday.

The rash of thefts started with one of the city’s vehicles. A pickup belonging to the Planning and Land Use Division was burglarized between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning while parked at a Fort Marcy baseball diamond.

Then three auto burglaries occurred between Thursday evening and Friday morning at an apartment complex on West Zia Road. Around the same time, three businesses in an office park on Luisa Street, near the intersection of Cordova Road and St. Francis Drive, were broken into. Three computers were stolen.
