An office laptop computer was stolen from the Chittenden County Public Defender’s office on College Street Tuesday night.
Managing Attorney Richard Haesler of the Public Defender’s Office said Burlington Police would release information on their investigation as they “deem appropriate. We as an office have no comment,” he said.
Deputy Police Chief Stephen Wark said the burglars broke into the office through its back door. The laptop, he said, had “nothing on it that could compromise anyone’s privacy.”
He said nothing else was stolen, no office files were disturbed, and the office was otherwise undisturbed.
Wark said the burglars had left “evidence” at the scene and police “are looking at a couple of suspects.”
The police urge anyone with information about the burglary to call the Burlington Police Department at 658-2704, or the Champlain Valley Crime Stoppers at 864-6666. ?
