Chase, crash and arrests follow stolen-van report

HERALD STAFF REPORT

HOLMES BEACH - Two young men, who were believed to be in a stolen van, led law officers on a car chase before crashing in far west Manatee County at about 2 a.m. today.

No one was hurt, but the pair was taken into custody on suspicion on stealing computers and the 2005 Dodge van out of Kississee, Fla., a Manatee County Sheriff's Office media release said.

The overnight action began in Holmes Beach at the Cozy Mobile Home Park. There, Holmes Beach police officers and sheriff's deputies responded to a tip that the stolen vehicle was there.

It wasn't.

But while the law-enforcement scanner crackled with activity, a deputy patroling west Bradenton saw the vehicle on 26th Street West at Cortez Road. Then, the chase was on westbound on Cortez.

In the 10200 block of Cortez, the van crashed. Taken into custody were James Edward Davidson, 29, and Ricky Lee Graef, 30, said the sheriff's report released at 5:30 a.m. by Sgt. J. Skowfoe.

"Holmes Beach recovered several computers taken in a burglary," the report said
