KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — Thieves with some strong sticky fingers have struck again at a U.S. base in the Kaiserlautern area.

Two large reels of copper wire were swiped from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center earlier this month, according to German police.

Thieves also broke into a construction site office at Ramstein Air Base, which is about five miles from the Army hospital. Between June 2 and June 6, four flat-screen TVs, two computers, a printer, a digital camera, a CD- radio, and equipment and tools were taken, according to Christiane Lautenschlager, a spokeswoman for the German police in Kaiserslautern.

The thieves are believed to have put the items in cardboard boxes. The police estimate the cost of the items to be several thousand euros.

Police were not sure whether the theft of copper reels and the electronic equipment are connected.

Last year, seven drums of metal cable worth $30,000 disappeared near the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center, which is under construction. Each of the reels weighs more than a ton.

No arrests have been made in the thefts, according to police.

Police have said that the thieves would have needed a small crane to lift the cable drums and take them away. Investigators suspect the high price of metal such as copper is the reason why the thieves would go to such lengths.
