Computer stolen from Human Services Department

SANTA FE (AP) - The state Human Services Department is working to notify clients that their personal information could have been stored in a computer that was stolen from the Albuquerque office.

Betina Gonzales McCracken, a spokeswoman for the department, says some Social Security numbers and birth dates are on the computer, but she says the department doesn’t know whose information is on the computer.

Gonzales McCracken says about 20,000 cases are handled through the Albuquerque office. That figure, however, doesn’t represent the total number of clients.

The break-in happened early Wednesday morning at the department’s Income Support Division.

Gonzales McCracken says the computer requires at least two different passwords to gain access.
