Stolen computer system found in well
16 October 2006
A computer system that was stolen from a Gaafu Alifu atoll Gemanfushi guest house has been found in a well near the Gemanfushi Island Office.According to Gemanfushi Island Chief, Mohamed Nizam, the theft occurred last Thursday night around 11pm. The government guest house and the Gemanfushi Island Office share the same building.
The theft occurred during the time that elapsed after the employees locked up the Island Office and before the security guard arrived for his duty, said Nizam. Nothing else was stolen or damaged from the premises. Nizam said that the monitor of the computer system that was stolen was not even in use any more.
The government had previously planned to build an airport on Gaafu Alifu atoll Dhiyadhoo, but had changed the site to Gaafu Alifu atoll Dhigurah. The youth of Gemanfushi had expressed their dissent last September by cutting the power and throwing stones at the Island Office.
