YUCCA VALLEY -- A pair of suspected thieves who stole about $15,000 in cash, stereo equipment and computers from area churches have been arrested, sheriff s officials said today.
Derek Hartman, 25, and Jesse Marshall, 18, both of Yucca Valley, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and booked into jail at the San Bernardino County sheriff s Morongo Basin jail.
Deputies said Hartman and his brother-in-law targeted churches in a series of burglaries. Burglaries occurred at locations including Calvary Baptist Church, Yucca Valley Church of Christ, Victory Christian Center and Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel, all in Yucca Valley. A Joshua Tree church was also burglarized, deputies said.
Deputies at 9 p.m. Thursday served a search warrant at a home in the 7200 block of Palo Alto Avenue in Yucca Valley. Deputies recovered a large quantity of the stolen property. The men were held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Deputies are continuing to investigate the case and are trying to recover additional stolen property. Anyone with information on the case may call sheriff s detectives at (760) 366-4183. Callers may remain anonymous.
