Thieves rob, vandalise Pares school

Thieves broke into the Pares Secondary School Wednesday night and made off with six computers from the IT Department. To add insult to injury vandalised the school by smearing human faeces on certain sections of the interior of the building.

Deputy Principal Genevieve Browne was forced to call in the Central Board of Health to sanitise the affected areas. Classes were disrupted yesterday, as a result.

Browne said she was alerted to the situation when she received a call from the janitor who went to the compound and observed that the door to the business section was open.

He was struck by a foul scent and upon close examination observed that the door knob was plastered with faeces.

The computer used by the business teacher was gone and upon further investigation he noticed that the Cabinet where school files are stored was open and had faeces plastered on it.

The desks too were smeared with faeces.

The thieves stole five computers from the IT lab, including one used by the teacher. The door handle was also smeared with faeces.

Initial investigation suggests that the thieves gained entry into the building via a window.

The principal explained that on Wednesdays, the security officer leaves the compound in the afternoon and do not return. It proved an opportune time for the perpetrators to strike. “The children cannot do any IT and business subjects today (Thursday). The rooms are filthy. I do not know if we will be able to retrieve any of the files since all were smeared with faeces. I would like to see the perpetrators caught. We need to know who did it since it is not the first time the school has been vandalised. I am asking residents who may be approached by people selling computers whom they suspect might have stolen them to report the matter to the police.”

In June of this year the school was broken into at which time a DVD player was stolen.

The matter is under police investigation.
