When a laptop computer went missing from a home in Valemount, local RCMP officer Constable Ed Burstrom wasted no time in closing the file.

The theft was discovered at 9 a.m. on November 26. The underage thief gained access to the home by cutting out a window screen and opening a window. Burstrom said that the suspect reached into the home, unhooked a new laptop computer and bolted.

Burstrom said that the laptop was recovered and the offender arrested.

“I had a suspect in mind from the beginning of the investigation and within two or three hours it ended in recovery of the laptop.”

The complaint was resolved by 11:30 a.m. the same day.

“The suspect was arrested and the laptop returned to its owner,” said Burstrom.

He said that, as is often the case, the victim knew the thief."
