OAKLAND — A nonprofit that provides a wide variety of free to low-cost medical services to the community was burglarized during the weekend.

Computers, fax-copier machines and other items were taken from 2572 San Pablo Ave., said Earl Jacobs of Healthy Oakland.

In September, a mobile health clinic managed by Healthy Oakland was also trashed and burglarized on an elementary school campus after a community health fair.

The office that was broken into is adjacent to the nonprofit's clinic at 2580 San Pablo Ave., which was untouched.
Employees could not work Monday because not only were computers stolen, but they were also waiting for fingerprinting.

Jacobs, also a deacon at a local church, said he is not deterred by the recent vandalism and burglaries. He said whoever stole from the office may be the same people who have benefited, or know ones who have, from the organization.

'It just shows we have a lot of work to do,' he said.

The five-year-old nonprofit moved into the office and clinic two years ago.

Jacobs said the acts come from desperation in the community. He believes the equipment was stolen and then traded for drugs along Mead Avenue, an area known for drug trafficking.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland offer up to $1,000 in reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information can call police at 777-8602 and Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 238-6946
