CONNECTICUT COMPUTER THIEF SENTENCED Federal Bureau of Investigation -New Haven Field Division:

MAN INVOLVED IN COMPUTER AND OFFICE SUPPLY THEFT SCHEME IS SENTENCED

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that LEONARD MASTRI, age 45, of Bridgeport, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet C. Hall in Bridgeport to two years of probation. On September 1, 2004, MASTRI waived indictment and pleaded guilty to three counts of wire fraud.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, from approximately January 2000 to May 2001, MASTRI was a computer consultant and owner of a computer store in Bridgeport named Computer Guys. Between January 2001 and January 2003, MASTRI and others knowingly devised and executed a scheme to defraud Sikorsky Aircraft (“Sikorsky”); Computer Sciences Corporation (“CSC”); Softchoice; and Hartford Office Supply (“Hartford Supply”) by purchasing computers and other office equipment and supplies that were stolen from Sikorsky, CSC, Softchoice and Hartford Supply, for the purpose of selling those items on eBay and elsewhere. MASTRI has admitted that he knew the computers and office supplies were stolen, and that he purchased them with the intent to sell them and enrich himself and others.

Today, Judge Hall ordered MASTRI to pay restitution in the amount of $22,480.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Edward Chang and Richard J. Schechter.
