Thousands of dollars worth of computers stolen from private school
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Crooks were able to break into a private school, stealing almost a dozen computers due to a faulty alarm system.
According to police, Friday morning the principal of the Spirit of Christ school arrived to find someone had broken into the school and stolen 10 computers from the classrooms. The suspects entered through a bathroom window and also kicked down doors to gain access.
Teachers and students alike were shocked to come to school and find the computers gone. "I just walked in here and just found out about it," said computer instructor, Torrence Mack. "I was coming in at 12:30 and I get here to find that the computers are gone. I'm spellbound. It's unbelievable that somebody would do something like that."
Officials say thieves left behind malfunctioning computers and even stole the principal's PC. The loss is going to cost the school, which only teaches 52 students, around $9,000.
The school's principal said that the education at the school will be severely effected without the use of computers. "It's a very large impact because now the kids don't have any computers to use to help them forward their education," said Principal Corvin Lamb.
Police believe the crime may have been an inside job and are investigating whether an employee or former employee may have been involved.
In addition to the holidays being right around the corner, "I mean, it's Christmastime and I know the thieves are out there, it's just unfortunate that they have to take it away from the kids."
