PENNSYLVANIA COMPUTER THIEVES CAUGHT kyw.com - Bensalem Police Nab Laptop Theft Suspects:

Bensalem Police Nab Laptop Theft Suspects

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA After recent arrests in a laptop robbery ring, police are warning people to think twice about leaving a computer exposed in your car.

Officials said two suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing more than $60,000 dollars worth of laptop computers out of cars in Bensalem, Lower Merion and Philadelphia.

Authorities in Bensalem set up an undercover operation at a Street Road restaurant after 22 computers were stolen along the corridor.

"We were able to establish a pattern and put some old police work to use and got an arrest," said Fred Haren of the Bensalem Police Department.

Police said two brothers; Jose Rivera, 24, and Angel Rivera, 31, both of Philadelphia, were arrested and admitted to 22 computer thefts.

The two suspects, police said, led detectives to a computer shop in Philadelphia where the two brothers had been selling the computers for $100 each.

"There could be a lot of personal information on your laptop, so people have to be careful; you don't know what kind of information people can get about you," said Haren.

Most of the stolen laptops were in plain view inside of victim's cars. Authorities said it is a good idea to write down the serial number found on the computer.

"Make a note of it in case your house or your car is broken into, the quicker we can get it reported stolen and in our data base, the quicker we can get it back to you," said Detective Jack Logan of the Philadelphia Police Department.
