Burglars Target Local Churches
News | Crime
Burglars broke into St. Luke United Methodist Church for the third time this year.
They broke windows, stole computers, and even took money from a recent church offering and fundraiser.
Burglars also hit Rivermont Presbyterian just a couple of blocks away, for the second time in recent months.
Now, church leaders have started installing a security system to make sure their church doesn't fall prey again.
Pastor Dr. Dan Sansbury, Rivermont Presbyterian Church
"So, we may not be as easy a target as we used to be, but, again, that's the people's cost to make the church office area more secure, instead of money that would have been spent in mission's or in local efforts to serve Christ and our community."
Sansbury says the thefts have cost the church thousands, and the security system will cost thousands more.
Chattanooga police department investigators are piecing together leads from the burglaries, but haven't identified
a suspect.
They urge anyone with information about the burglaries contact the polcie department.
