VIRGINIA 27 COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM LIBRARY Times Community Newspapers - Library computers stolen

Employees opening the Great Falls Library on Sunday morning found the entire building stripped of virtually all of its computers.

According to the Fairfax County Police, sometime between the library's closing at 5 p.m. Saturday and when the staff arrived Sunday morning, burglars broke a window and gained entry to the building. They then removed 27 computers, with values ranging from $500 to $1,500 each, from the library.

According to police, the sheer scale of the crime suggests that there are multiple suspects involved. Along with the computers, the library is missing a boom box and a bull horn.

"They even tried to take our mini fridge," said Linden Renner, the library's branch manager.

By Monday, there were replacement computers for every one stolen, Brenner said.

Meanwhile the citizens of Great Falls, used to thinking of their community as a low-crime area, are outraged about the incident.

"I hope they catch these guys and put 'em away forever," said Mike Pahner, a Great Falls resident and member of Friends of the Great Falls Library.

The Great Falls Citizens Association has a town meeting focusing on crime prevention scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
