Of late, thieves have been giving serious nightmares to channel partners with their daring overnight activities. This time Karnal-based Gayatri Computers fell victim to thieves, as hardware items worth Rs 3.5 lakh were stolen from the shop.

The incident took place on Dec 27 when the thieves fled with two laptops, nine AMDs, four motherboards, five LCDs, 20 DVD combo drive, two DVD RW, eight RAM, two Intel 2.8 Dual Core and hard disk 80GB SATA.

The housekeeping member who came to the shop for cleaning purpose first noticed the incident and informed everyone.

“When we got to know about the incident we immediately rushed to the nearest police station to file an FIR. But forget about expecting any action, we did not even receive any kind of support from the police. They came to my shop to take a round but could only create a scene and nothing else,” lamented Saurabh Sharma, MD, Gayatri Computers.

Showing his distrust and anger with the police, Sharma said that the police showed extremely irresponsible behavior as they did not registered even an FIR. He further confirmed that if the police did not take any action by the weekend he would call for a press meet.

Thieves made their way in to the showroom by breaking the shutters from the front. Inside, the whole room was upset and things werewildly scattered.
Sharma further said that on seeing the condition of the room and the number of items stolen it could be judged that there were three to four men involved and they were professionals and had very good knowledge of IT business.

“The involved men were very specific with the products and took only those models that were costly and high-tech. Nine AMD-based laptops are missing hence I am sure that they very well aware of the market trend and have stolen accordingly as these kinds of products are sold mostly in markets like Chandigarh and New Delhi,” said Sharma.

Another issue that has choked Sharma is that the items were not insured and there is no way getting compensation for them. However, the incident has been instrumental in awakening owner to the importance of getting their assets insured and tighten security.

“Afterwards I insured all the items in the store and have raised the security levels to avoid such incidents and losses in future,” said Sharma.

After the incident, Sharma is vigil with his employees and has heightened security by planting hidden camera, sirens and strong locks in the showroom.
