Prison Employee Charged With Computer Theft
Pine Bluff (AP) - A computer technician who worked in the administrative headquarters of the state prison system, where 42 new laptop computers disappeared last fall, has been charged with theft.
State police say Joseph Camp, 32, was charged on Friday. Camp had worked in the administration building of the Department of Correction since February 2006. The computers, worth 59-thousand dollars, were found missing on October sixth.
State police say the investigation is continuing.
State prisons spokeswoman Dina Tyler says it appears the laptops were being resold for far less than their value.
Tyler says the theft of the laptops is not connected to contraband computers that turned up at the Tucker Unit this month in an internal investigation that has led to two firings, two resignations and four suspensions.
