FRANCISTOWN:
Thieves broke into the Francistown City Council (FCC) Civic Centre over the weekend and stole a computer and its accessories belonging to the Commercial Affairs department.

The FCC town clerk, David Modisagape, confirmed the theft. He, however, denied another report that said two computers from revenue the department had also been stolen. Modisagape told Mmegi that he was waiting for a written report from the Security Company that was engaged to guard the Civic Centre.

I'm awaiting details from the Security Company since they have not reported the break-in to me," he disclosed. Modisagape said they suspected that the culprits might have entered the building through the small cubicle windows on the southern flank of the building. The town clerk said he was puzzled because the security did not notice anything. After gaining entrance, it is suspected that the culprits used power lines to land on the floor. After stealing the computer , they escaped through trail doors on the eastern side of the Civic Centre. It is also suspected that they used a crowbar to open the trail door. "We can't rule out the possibility of it being an internal job. The investigations are ongoing," he said.

Modisagape said that he was having sleepless nights because of acts of corruption at FCC. He revealed that the misappropriation of funds at FCC was shocking. So far, he said, there were not less than 15 pending cases, some at the courts of law. "Immediately these cases are resolved, heads will roll," he promised.

In another case, the FCC is investigating a case in which its cheque was stolen and used to buy from a certain shop. The town clerk said Standard Bank detected the cheque because it was post dated.

In this case, however, the FCC did not lose any money
