January 8, 2007 12:48 pm — Ontario County Sheriff's deputies today are looking for a man accused of stealing two computers from a Wal-Mart store and evading police last night in Farmington, Ontario County.
A Wal-Mart employee reportedly called police about 8:30 p.m. yesterday after two people allegedly stole two desktop computers worth $1,046 from Wal-Mart in Hopewell, Ontario County, deputies said.
About 20 minutes later, Sgt. Tate Colburn of the Ontario County Sheriff's Office located the pair in a Chevrolet Blazer stopped at a traffic light at Routes 332 and 96 in Farmington, said Deputy Paul Hogan. Colburn signaled the driver to pull over. But the male driver veered off Route 332 to Collett Road, a dead-end road, and crossed over railroad tracks at the end of the street, Hogan said.
Hogan noted that a vehicle crossing is not located on this road.
The vehicle, now damaged, came to rest on the other side of the tracks about 8:55 p.m., Hogan said. The driver and a passenger, Jessica Tellier, 18, of Rochester, fled on foot.
Tellier was later apprehended by state troopers in a nearby subdivision and was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, Hogan said. She was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash, he said. She was later released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Tellier was arraigned in Farmington Town Court and remanded to Ontario County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, deputies said.
Deputies continue to search for the man and to investigate the incident.
