THE Police have interrogated 10 people in its investigation into the loss of vital National Social Security Fund (NSSF) data.

The head of the Fraud Unit, John Bwango, said yesterday a Saracen guard who was on duty when the theft occurred, was also arrested but later released on Police bond.

Bwango said the Police had taken samples of fingerprints which were being analysed at their verification centre.

“All the employees denied involvement but the fingerprints will give us a lead on who committed the offence. We expect the results of the fingerprint examination to be out soon. But we are still gathering fingerprints for comparison with what we gathered from the scene,” he said.

Preliminary investigations, he said, indicated that the motive was to destroy information.

A source said at the time of the break-in, NSSF was conducting an internal audit into mismanagement by some employees.

This was the second robbery in four months in which the NSSF computers were vandalised and their hard disks stolen.

Bwango said: “The first time 37 computers were vandalised and their Random Access Memory and processors were stolen. In the second incident, 32 were vandalised and the same thing happened.”

He added that the doors to the offices were not broken. “The door was intact but the computers were vandalised, an indication that there was involvement of insiders.”

NSSF public relations officer Olive Lumonya had on Tuesday allayed fears that vital data was lost.
