Two laptops were stolen out of a suite in Smith Hall in the Hinman residential community on Sunday, Jan. 28. The theft occurred in the afternoon while a female resident was home in the shower.
The victims of this theft requested to remain anonymous. One witness, who also requested that his name not be used, reported the description of the two laptops, both Dells. The top lid is dark gray, the bottom half is black. When opened, it is missing an “S” key and possibly even a “W” key. One of the keys is highlighted in yellow. The other laptop has a webcam and a 12-inch monitor. It has a black cover and has a silver strip at the end of the outside.
Investigator Matt Rossie of Binghamton’s New York State University Police declined to give specific information about the case because it is still under investigation. “Please be careful when you leave your rooms unattended and make sure all of your valuables are locked away including your laptop with a laptop lock,” he said.
Laptop locks range in price anywhere from $25 to $30 and can be purchased online at Comp USA, at major retailers who sell computer accessories or at the local campus bookstore.
Laptops are easy to because they are small and can be sold very quickly.
If you have any information regarding the stolen laptops, please contact University police at (607) 777-2393.
