Family dog stolen in home invasion
WLS By John Garcia
March 22, 2007 - A home invasion in the southwestern suburbs robbed one family of more than just material items. Thieves took not only computer equipment and jewelry -- but also the family's beloved pet.
The Deatrick family arrived to find their Bolingbrook home to find a mess. The house was ransacked. The home was computer missing. The feeling many burglary victims have they have been violated. But then they noticed the spot where their dog Pixie usually stays in his cage during the day. It was gone. And suddenly the burglary became much worse.
'We're all broken-hearted. She's a part of the family. I just want her back. We all want her back,' said Dorene Deatrick, dog owner.
Pixie, a 1 1/2-year-old purebred pug was the family's baby. They believe the burglar broke into the house through a basement window, took a few things of value, but nothing that matters much to the Deatrick's, except Pixie. They are praying she is safe.
'I'm in shock. I can't eat. We're all very sad,' said Deatrick.
Bolingbrook police say they have taken a burglary report and collected fingerprints at the home, but the family says their best hope is for whoever took Pixie to bring her home.
The family is offering an unspecified reward for the dog's return. The fawn-colored pug weighs 14 pounds and wears no tag.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Bolingbrook Police Department at 630-226-0600 or Crime Stoppers of Bolingbrook at 630-378-4772.
