Correctional officer charged with theft

A county correctional work center officer was charged Thursday with
stealing a computer from MTSU’s Foundation House, authorities said.

MTSU Police Lt. Matt Foster charged Jeff Griswold, 51, of Lexington Court with felony theft over $1,000.

A Dell laptop computer was reported missing from the Foundation House March 5 on Thompson Lane. It was believed taken March 3.

Foster obtained the arrest warrants after he interviewed people at the Foundation House as part of his investigation.

“It was determined through the investigation that a Jeff Griswold
took the computer and subsequently returned it back to the Foundation House and gave it to a custodial worker explaining that he saw it there over the weekend and was afraid that the computer would be stolen so he took it for safekeeping,” Foster reported in the arrest warrant.

The custodial worker told Foster no one was supposed to be in the building over the weekend, the warrant stated. Three MTSU officers were on the premises so the computer could have been turned over to them instead of being taken.

When contacted at home today, Griswold said he had no comment.

Workhouse director Alan Miller, who is on vacation this week, said Griswold notified another supervisor about the arrest as required.

“It’s an allegation,” Miller said. “He’s still working.”

Griswold was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. A hearing is pending in General Sessions Court.
