Police arrest 2 in office burglary
Two suspects have been identified and charged in connection with a burglary last week at Denny Groves and Associates Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Hillsdale.
A third suspect is being sought. He is believed to have left the area, said Detective Brad Martin of the Hillsdale Police Department.
Martin reported Shaden C. Sanders, 25, of 7 Medallion Circle was arrested Thursday on charges of receiving and concealing stolen property valued at more than $1,000, a felony. David Michael Reed, 20, of 10100 Grass Lake Road was also arrested on charges of one count of breaking and entering, and one count of receiving and concealing stolen property valued at more than $1,000, a felony.
Denny Groves, owner of Coldwell Banker, reported the break–in on March 19. Missing were an antique rifle, two laptop computers and a card reader.
“I applaud the Hillsdale police and especially Detective Brad Martin,” Groves said. “It was fast action and excellent results on their part. I also commend the woman who called the police when she realized what she was offered wasstolen.”
The woman to whom Groves referred was offered a deal too good to be true — a suspiciously inexpensive laptop. She contacted the owner of the computer, then the police department. After verifying the laptop had been stolen she turned over the item and turned in the suspects’ names.
“Had it not been for the actions of that witness to contact the owner of that computer and verify it belonged to her , then turning the computer over to us, it would have been much more difficult to solve this case,” Martin said.
Martin said the police department was assisted by the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department in making the arrests. Because the two suspects had left the city limits and jurisdiction of the police department, Martin asked the county to make the arrest on warrants held by the city.
“They were definitely a big help,” Martin said.
