BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Police said an investigation into the thefts of computers from Indiana University allowed them to discover a crack-cocaine-making operation in a Bloomington trailer home.
IU police said surveillance video showed Jeffrey Welty, a 32-year-old graduate student, stealing computers from a campus computer lab. Police said they confronted Welty, who they believe stole the equipment to pay for a cocaine habit.
Welty led investigators to the trailer home, where the investigators found the computers and a cooking operation that was making crack cocaine, police said.
Police said they arrested three people in the trailer, including Timothy Mark Todd, who was held on charges including possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver.
Authorities said they expect to file charges against Welty this weekend.
