LEAWOOD, Kan. -- A Johnson County couple returned home on Thursday to find out they had been robbed during the lunch hour, and they said some of the stolen items are priceless.
Milton and Karrie Wolf said they have an alarm system, but they didn't turn it on when they headed out for lunch. When they got home at about 2 p.m., they were greeted with chaos.
"Telephones on the floor, DVDs sprawled over the sofa," Karrie Wolf said. "Things were in total disarray, and I just turned and ran."
She said she went to the garage and told her husband what she saw and then went to a neighbor's house to call 911. After police checked the house, the Wolfs were allowed inside.
"Then you have the pain of walking in and just seeing things strewn about -- every drawer opened, mattresses upturned, DVDs, CDs thrown about," Milton Wolf told KMBC's Peggy Breit.
The couple said the thieves stole a TV, two computers, three iPods, three cameras and a box of baseballs signed by their son's high school baseball team.
"Probably not worth anything to them but worth a lot to us," Karrie Wolf said.
The thieves also tried to steal an arcade game but only got it moved halfway across the room.
Milton Wolf said the biggest loss is hundreds of family pictures that were saved on the computers.
"Eight years' worth of pictures that I can't replace. I'm trying so desperately to try to find those, trying to get those pictures back. I could care less about the other stuff -- insurance can cover it. They're things; I can buy new things, but not those pictures," he said.
He said they've added $1,000 to the TIPS Hot Line reward to get back those photographs.
"Just for those pictures -- not for an arrest, not for the rest of the items, not for anything else. We just want the pictures," he said.
Meanwhile, the family members said they don't feel as safe as they used to.
"It was a little unsettling -- the kids and Milton and I were up throughout the night several times," Karrie Wolf said.
The couple said they plan to install a new video surveillance system at the home.
Police said two other houses in the area were also robbed.
Anyone with information in the case can call the TIPS Hot Line at 816-474-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
