Nanton RCMP are seeking information from the public in regards to several break and enters that occurred at various businesses and agencies throughout town.
The first break and enter, according to Cst. Dwayne Helgeson of the Nanton RCMP, took place some time between the late hours of Monday, April 23 and early morning hours of Tuesday, April 24. An individual or group of individuals broke into the FCSS building by damaging one of the doors. Once inside, the individual or individuals stole “distinct” items from the building, including a small bar fridge, a computer hard drive and monitor and many other items. The culprits also broke into the shed that sits in front of the FCSS building and took several things from there as well.
“(We) believe that it is somebody who needed some furnishing for their own home or apartment,” Helgeson said.
To make matters worse, culprits broke into the shed in front of the FCSS building for a second time last Monday, again stealing numerous items.
Nicole Van Langen, director of the Nanton Quality of Life Foundation (NQLF), estimated the thieves stole approximately $12,000 worth of items from the building the first time around. Van Langen said this incident has caused some major setbacks for those working at the FCSS building.
“It’s been devastating,” Van Langen said. “It’s setting us back six weeks at the very least. The computers were stolen and all the programming information that we had were on the computers.”
After the first break and enter, Van Langen said the NQLF board has decided to move the shed so that the side entrance won’t be concealed. Because the NQLF is suffering from such setbacks and will only be open on a limited basis due to the original break and enter, Van Langen said those looking for services should call the centre (646-2436) before dropping by.
But the FCSS building was only one place affected by this rash. According to the RCMP, two businesses during the early morning hours last Monday were broken into as well. Cowboy Country Clothing had its front door pried open for the culprit(s) to gain entry. Once inside, the business and offices were searched, and had money and other itemsstolen.
Also some time during the early morning hours on Monday, an individual or individuals jumped the chain link fence of Home Hardware to gain access into its compound. Once inside, the person(s) entered the production room and searched through numerous cabinets and then sprayed a fire extinguisher throughout the building. Again, various items werestolen. According to the RCMP, the culprit(s) exited the compound by cutting a hole in the fence.
Anyone with information pertaining to these break and enters can call the Nanton RCMP at either 646-5722 or 646-2444. And as always, people can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8487, and those with information leading to an arrest can receive a reward of up to $2,000.
