DANCING to the tune of silence is a reality for Montessori Wairarapa after having their portable CD player stolen at the weekend.
A computer harddrive and keyboard have also disappeared and Montessori Wairarapa head teacher Pauline Harter said the children are disappointed.
'Two girls discovered the CD player was missing when they went to use it for their morning dance and at first I didn't believe them because I had hidden it so well on Friday afternoon. When we went back to the classroom we discovered the computer had disappeared and then we found the monitor in the toilet so I guess the burglars must have been disturbed.
"Around $500 worth of property was taken "which has saddened and upset the school", she said.
"We think they must have come through a door at the far end of the building which was locked but seems to have been really forced. The alarm had also been tampered with as when we came in on Monday we couldn't enter the code properly."
Ms Harter said insurance would cover the cost of the stolen equipment and "the girls are very keen to have a new CD player as soon as possible".
