WASHINGTON (AP) - A DC council member's laptop has been stolen, and worse, it happened at an event to encourage ex-offenders to take responsibility for their lives and futures.

About 200 men gathered for Thursday's event at the Wilson Building, sponsored by DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton.
At the end of the night, Council Member Kwame Brown's $1200 laptop was gone. Brown says there isn't any important information on the laptop and that it's password protected.

Brown says it was an unfortunate way to end a discussion about such a critical issue.

The thief apparently took the computer from a table while participants were mingling after the event. But Brown says that video cameras were rolling at the time, and he's waiting to see what the investigation turns up.
