ALBANY -- An Albany man faces up to 75 years in jail for breaking into homes owned by his sister, neighbors and a clergyman and selling the proceeds for drugs.
Phillip Morris Henry, 27, stole at least $15,000 worth of property in the break-ins, prosecutors said.
Henry burglarized the Woodlawn Avenue home of a clergyman on Oct. 22, swiping a computer, camcorder and video games while he was performing an afternoon service, Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Boland said.Henry also had broken into his sister's Sheridan Avenue home while she was away, and two weeks later burglarized her other home on Lawnridge Avenue, prosecutors said. He also broke into two of his neighbors' South Pearl Street homes, Boland said.
The thefts netted two computers, jewelry, DVDs, video games and a checkbook, among other items, the prosecutor said. Henry sold them at a pawn shop and on the street, she said.
Henry, who has prior convictions for burglary and escaping custody in Georgia, was convicted late Wednesday of second-degree burglary after a three-day County Court trial. He faces 15 years for each of the five burglary counts, which could run consecutively to equal 75 years.
"It was a difficult case because of the nature of the burglaries, the fact that family members were involved," Boland said. "It's always sad when it hits home."
Sentencing is Sept. 26.
