Guns, computers taken from business

A Monday night burglary at Eagle Pest Management at 1775 Porter St. resulted in the loss of computers and black powder firearms, according to Deputy Dustin Robbins with the Independence County Sheriff’s Office.

Robbins said the burglary was reported after employees reported to work and found an inner office broken into and an inspection of the building revealed a burglary had taken place.

An employee, Bill Armer, told Robbins two laptop computers valued at $2,000 each and owned by the business, along with some personal items were missing from the building.

“The personal items that were taken included two black powder handguns, three hand-made bone handled knives, and a plaque containing six $2 bills,” Robbins said. The items were valued at $460.

Armer said the door to an accountant’s office in the front of the building had been forced open and this alerted employees that something was amiss. Two window screens were later found cut and removed from the windows where it is believed burglars entered the building.

Criminal Investigations Division officers examined the building and gathered evidence and serial numbers of the items taken in order to enter them into a national data base ofstolen items.

Total valued of items stolen and damage to the building was listed at $3,680, according to Robbins.

No suspects were listed.
