NORTH CAROLINA COMPUTERS STOLEN FROM CHILDHEALTH CENTER Hickory Daily Record | ChildHealth Center: Patients don't need to worry about theft
HICKORY -- Patients and parents have nothing to worry about after a break-in at The ChildHealth Center on Fourth Street Drive, NW.
The office was broken into sometime Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Several of the office’s small laptops used by doctors and nurses were reported stolen, but they did not contain any sensitive patient-related information. These computers were used as computer terminals.
In fact, the computers do not work outside the office and are protected by three levels of password protection. The wireless security has been changed to prevent the old computers from operating on the system.
“All patient information is securely stored on our server, which was not stolen,” the staff wrote in a letter to patients and parents. “There is multiple security layers present so that no one can gain access to patient information without appropriate security clearance. All practitioners and staff of The ChildHealth Center P.A. remain committed to providing your children the highest quality of care in our community. We continue to strive to maintain that most secure medical records possible to protect your privacy.”
