Computers stolen from Local 29

Two computers containing more than 400 Spokane firefighters’ personal information were stolen from the firefighters’ union office in North Spokane, officials said.

The burglary was discovered about 8:30 a.m. Monday, said Local 29 President Greg Borg, who was last at the office on East Baldwin Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

The thief broke out a window and opened the door to the office on East Baldwin Avenue. “They went straight to our newest computer,” Borg said. “On their way out the door, they took the laptop.”

Cash and checks left out in the open were untouched, he said.

The computers had current and retired firefighters’ phone numbers, addresses and social security numbers on them, Borg said.

The estimated loss was about $2,000, Borg said. But “the maddening part was everyone’s personal information.”

Spokane Police are investigating, officials said.
