UK TRACKING SOFTWARE PUT ON LAPTOPS BBC NEWS | England | West Midlands | Tracking software put on laptops:
Police in the West Midlands have made their first arrests by using tracking equipment to find a stolen laptop.
Officers said that by installing the software onto the computers it could lead them to where they were hidden.
Two men from Handsworth, Birmingham, were arrested after the theft of one computer led police to find 30 more that had been stolen.
The project is being trialled with University of Birmingham students but is also being extended to Coventry.
Student Jennifer Howard, who had her laptop stolen, said she was "delighted" to get it back because it contained her dissertation.
Police said they were trying to trace the owners of the other 30 stolen computers.
