FLORIDA COMPUTERS STOLEN cbs4.com - Thieves Steal Toys Donated To Homeless Children
BROWARD (CBS4) ― A South Florida organization dedicated to helping the homeless has become the victim of a crime just days before Christmas and now some well-deserving children may not get any toys on Christmas morning.
The Coalition to End Homelessness in Broward County was broken into Wednesday night and all of the toys that had been collected for homeless children werestolen.
CBS4.COM spoke to volunteer coordinator Paulette Pryor who was the first person to arrive at work Thursday morning and noticed something was very wrong.
"When I walked in this morning, the door was unlocked. I went to the back of the building and there was glass all over the floor. They had smashed a glass door in the back of the building."
Pryor went straight to her office to call police and noticed right away that her computer was gone.
The thieves not only took her computer and a co-worker's computer, but also 4 to 5 big boxes of toys which were to be given to children. All of the toys had been donated for Christmas.
In addition, the thieves broke open a safe and stole about 5-hundred dollars worth of toys that had been purchased by the Chief Executive Officer for her own son.
Sadly, this isn't the first time the Coalition office has been targeted. Pryor says their offices were broken into about a month and a half ago and the computers were stolen then as well.
According to its Web site, the Coalition to End Homelessness is a leader in coordinating services, educating the community and advocating for the needs of more than 15,000 homeless individuals and families in Broward County,
If you'd like to donate replacement toys for the children, you can call the Coalition Headquarters at (954) 792-4000 ext: 222 or the CEO Laura Hansen at (954) 383-5255.
