A man is expected to appear in court today after he was arrested for the alleged
theft of vital computer radiography imaging equipment from Blacktown Hospital last week.

Between 3.30am and 5.15am on Thursday (6 December) it is alleged a man entered the medical imaging department on the third floor of Blacktown Hospital.

Police will allege six computer towers were taken, including three GE - brand mainframes, and seven LCD monitors between 20 inches and 38 inches in diameter. The equipment is valued at $313,000.

The man has allegedly utilised a hospital trolley to remove the equipment and fled through a fire escape. Some of the equipment was later recovered from nearby rubbish bins within the facility.

As a result of examining CCTV footage, Blacktown Police attended a house in Orinoco Place, Seven Hills, about 8.15pm on Tuesday, where they arrested the 20-year-old man. He was conveyed to Blacktown Police Station and interviewed.

He was subsequently charged with larceny, enter enclosed lands and malicious damage.

He’s been refused bail and is expected to appear in Blacktown Local Court today.
