More than 40 laptops stolen from showroom

Chandigarh, December 13 A computer showroom in Sector 20 (Dakshin Marg) was burgled last night, the police said. According to the complaint, more than 40 laptops and various othercomputer accessories have been stolen from the shop, causing a loss to the tune of more than Rs 20 lakh.

Iqbal Singh, one of the owners of the shop, said the theft was noticed this morning when they came to open the shop. “The main lock of the door was found broken,” he said.

He added most of the expensive laptops, which were of HP-Compaq and HCL make, have been taken away.

Iqbal Singh said that there were about four CCTV cameras installed in the showroom. The scene of crime, however, was not captured. “The cameras were switched off in the night. Usually, we don’t leave the CCTV cameras on after the shop is closed,” he said. The police have registered a case of burglary. The investigation is on.
