Woman Says Satellite TV Worker Took Computer
WCCO)
When you pay someone to do work at your home, you don't expect to have to watch their every move.
"I wish I would have seen a story like this before he came into my house," said Jaime Adam, a theft victim.
Adam invited a satellite TV worker into her home and says he walked out with her home computer.
"Oh, it's horrible. This person was in your home and this person was in your home when you were home," said Adam.
Adam has no doubt that the guy who put in a new satellite line to her Robbinsdale, Minn. basement walked out of the house with her laptop computer.
"All I could see was the power cord lying behind the table," she said.
Gone were tons of pictures of her 2-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son, all while she sat upstairs, leaving the service tech alone.
"My initial thought was ... I absolutely don't want to believe it. You know, I'm like, it's a DIRECTV person. I've had DIRECTV for how long? They show up in a van -- it's a big company. This kind of stuff doesn't happen," she said.
However, the guy who came to Jamie's house didn't work for DIRECTV. Like many people who come into our homes to fix our cable or telephones, the tech was a private contractor.
"When I saw the name, it wasn't DIRECTV ... I actually asked him about it, I said, 'So, are you from around here?'" said Adam.
The man works for a company called Premiere Satellite Oklahoma.
Adam said DIRECTV gave her the brush-off, when she called to report the stolen laptop.
WCCO-TV got better results.
"Actually within an hour of you, WCCO, contacting DIRECTV, I had two different voicemails," said Adam.
Now, Premiere and DIRECTV said they're investigating and pledge to pay her back.
Adam said her next service call will be different.
"Oh I will hover, from now on, that's my biggest lesson," said Adam.
WCCO-TV contacted DIRECTV and in a written statement the company said it's "... working to get to the bottom of the issue."
