March 21, 2008 00:01 AM Police Cripple Gang Of Thieves Which Stole Office Equipment From Schools MELAKA, March 21 (Bernama) -- The man was a bad teacher. Teaching was the last thing on his mind. Instead of imparting knowledge to students, the 36-year-old broke into several schools where security was lax, to steal computers and teaching equipment. This, he did, with help from five accomplices. Altogether, the gang dubbed, "Kamal Bachang", escaped with personal and laptop computers, screen projectors and MP4 players worth a total of about RM80,000. In a recent operation, police crippled the group, detained its members and seized an assortment of office equipment, including five personal computers, a laptop computer and screen projector, among others. The suspects were picked up in a series of raids in Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur, since March 11. State CID chief, ACP Zainal Abidin Kasim said initial investigations revealed that the teacher was previously employed at a technical school in Melaka for the past four years. He said the suspects, aged between 28 and 42, targeted schools where security was lax. Zainal said police were in the midst of tracking down two other men to facilitate investigations into the thefts. -- BERNAMA
